A red glass ball wrapped in silver beads forms the balloon, with long glass rods leading down to a small basket. It is a striking piece of mid-century USSR holiday design.

Item Details

Type: Christmas tree ornament (New Year decoration)

Theme: Hot air balloon / airship / transport

Technique: Montazhnaya (assembled glass beads and tubes on a wire frame)

Material: Glass, wire, glass beads

Color: Red and silver

Details: Silver glass finials at the top and bottom, glass rod “ropes” and a woven-style basket

Era: Mid-century Soviet, attributed to the 1950s–1960s

Height: Approx. 23 cm (approx. 9 in)

Country of Manufacture: USSR

Condition

Good vintage condition considering its age and extreme fragility. Because they are built from many fragile glass parts, complete examples in good shape are prized by collectors of vintage glass Christmas ornaments. At about 9 inches tall, this balloon makes a standout piece on a tree or in a holiday display.

Shipping

Free worldwide shipping from Ukraine with a tracking number.
