The gold-tone metal figure and anvil sit on a heavy dark carbolite (bakelite) base with three integrated brass shell casings that serve as pen, pencil or brush holders. The base bears an embossed quote in Russian about Tula, which points to a souvenir from that city.

Item Details

Type: Desktop composition / pen and pencil holder

Subject: Smith forging a sword into a plowshare, after Evgeny Vuchetich

Figure: Metal with a gold-tone finish

Base: Heavy dark carbolite / bakelite

Holders: Three integrated brass shell casings

Inscription: «… Значение Тулы для Республики огромно…» (The importance of Tula for the Republic is immense)

Weight: 806 g (1.78 lb)

Theme: Peace, industrial art, Tula craftsmanship

Country of Manufacture: USSR

Condition

Used, in good vintage condition with an authentic patina. Tula is famous for its arms factories and metalwork, which gives the shell-casing holders a local meaning. At 806 g it is a solid paperweight and statement piece for a desk, and it suits collectors of Soviet industrial art and desk accessories.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0808/0500/3413/files/s-l1600_6d368b4a-8402-4057-92bf-1707591d1b7b.jpg?v=1791481499
https://sovietvintagestore.com/products/soviet-desktop-composition-beat-swords-into-plowshares-tula-pen
