Description:

Antique Kasli Cast Iron Figurine – "The Crawling Devil" (Mephistopheles)

I am offering for sale a classic example of famous Russian artistic iron casting from Kasli. This dynamic figurine, often referred to as "The Devil" or "Mephistopheles," is renowned for its incredible level of detail and expressive anatomy.

History & Design:

This model was originally created in the late 19th/early 20th century and remained popular throughout the Soviet era. It features a devil in a creeping, predatory pose with elongated fingers and a long, curved tail. The piece is finished with the traditional "Dutch soot" (black lacquer), which provides a soft, satin sheen.

Condition Report (Important):

• Damage: There is a notable loss (break) on the back right leg. The hoof/lower part of the leg is missing (please see photos #4 and #8 for a close-up of the break).

• General Wear: The rest of the figurine (hands, tail, horns) is intact. There are minor scuffs and traces of age on the lacquer surface consistent with an antique item.

• Sold "As Is": This is a perfect candidate for restoration or a great addition to a collection of Urals iron casting for those who don't mind the "battle scars" of history.
