About this piece

Vintage Soviet Ded Moroz figurine, pressed cotton and paper-mache Father Frost on a wooden base with factory ink stamp. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This Ded Moroz figurine is a classic Soviet-era Father Frost, the traditional centerpiece of New Year and Christmas celebrations in the USSR. It was made with the pressed cotton (vatny) and paper-mache technique, and shows him in a vibrant red robe holding a staff and a gift sack. He stands on a sturdy wooden base that still carries the original factory ink stamp.

Condition

Good vintage condition for its age. The colors remain bright. There is some natural age-related wear to the cotton and light spotting on the hat. About This Piece

Ded Moroz is the Slavic Father Frost, who brings gifts at New Year. Figures made of pressed cotton were popular holiday decorations in the Soviet era and are now valued as a form of folk art. A figure that keeps its stamped base and bright colors is a good fit for vintage Christmas displays and for collectors of Eastern European folk art.
