From the seller's notes

This Soviet reel to reel tape recorder is a Dnepr-14A, a vacuum tube (valve) recorder made in the USSR, housed in a heavy wooden cabinet with a distinctive geometric front speaker grille. It features a 6E1P magic eye tube level indicator and is sold as-is for restoration, repair or parts.

Condition

Sold as-is for restoration, repair or parts. The device powers on and the mechanical rewind works. Playback is currently not working: when switched on, the recorder does not function correctly, possibly because the tape is threaded incorrectly or the internal drive belts and mechanisms need adjustment or replacement. The wooden case is in good vintage condition with its original glossy finish, showing surface scratches, scuffs and minor age-related abrasions. The rear metal parts have a patina. The bottom wooden cover is missing, which exposes the internal tube chassis and original wiring. As a vintage tube device, it will need internal maintenance, cleaning or belt replacement to restore full function.

About This Piece

The Dnepr series of tape recorders was built in Soviet Ukraine and belongs to the early generation of Soviet home tape recorders that used vacuum tubes. Its glowing magic eye and polished wood cabinet make the Dnepr-14A a favorite of tube enthusiasts and collectors of vintage reel to reel equipment, and even unrestored it is a striking retro decor piece.
