About This Piece

Baikonur is the cosmodrome in Kazakhstan from which Soviet and Russian crewed flights launched, and the Mir station hosted international crews in the early 1990s. A Slava watch that marks a German-Russian mission ties together space history and Soviet watchmaking. The low serial number on the case back adds interest for collectors of space-themed watches. The dial design is the main draw. A station in orbit with two flags is an unusual subject for a mechanical wristwatch, and it reflects a short period of cooperation between Russia and Germany in space.
