This Soviet filmstrip projector, the Ekran (diafilm projector), has a red and black plastic body and comes with 15 vintage filmstrips. It was made in the USSR in the 1980s and is in clean, well-preserved cosmetic condition. It was tested and is fully working, which makes it a fun collectible and a nostalgic gift.

Item Details

  • Type: Filmstrip (diafilm) projector
  • Model: Ekran
  • Era: USSR, 1980s
  • Material: Plastic body, metal and glass internal optical elements
  • Voltage: 220V, original power cord attached

Condition

Used, but in very good vintage condition. Tested and fully working: the bulb lights up and the lens focuses smoothly. The cosmetic condition is clean and well preserved. The filmstrips are vintage, so minor signs of age or wear are to be expected. The projector runs on 220V; buyers in the US and Canada would need a step-up converter from 110V.

About This Piece

Filmstrip projectors were a staple of Soviet childhood, used to show illustrated stories on the wall at home. The included titles, such as The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish and The Stolen Sun, are well-known fairytales and stories, so the set works as a working display of Soviet children's culture.

Care & handling

  1. Most Soviet electronics run on 220V — use a step-down converter in the US.
  2. Power up slowly and check before regular use; vintage parts may need service.
  3. Keep dry and away from dust; store with lens and battery covers on.
  4. Remove batteries before long-term storage.
