About This Piece

Zarnitsa was a popular military-sports game for Soviet schoolchildren, organized through the Pioneer organization, in which teams competed in field exercises, drills and scouting tasks. Artek, on the Black Sea coast of Crimea, was the best-known Pioneer camp in the Soviet Union. A Soviet kids sailor uniform with a real Artek and Zarnitsa story, including a cap made at home by the family, is a charming and personal piece of Soviet childhood history for collectors of Soviet navy uniform items, Pioneer memorabilia and everyday Soviet life.
