About This Piece
Viktor Vasnetsov painted Ivan Tsarevich Riding the Grey Wolf in 1889, and the image became one of the most beloved illustrations of Russian fairy tales. In the Soviet era, art combines of the Art Fund of the USSR produced hand-painted versions of classic works for homes and public interiors. The Podolsk stamp on the back documents the origin of this piece, making it an appealing find for collectors of Soviet vintage art, Slavic folklore and mid-century decorative painting.
