About this piece

Soviet optical center finder, TsO-2 type, for coordinate boring and milling machines. Clear reticle, 1.082 kg. Ships worldwide from Ukraine with tracking.

From the seller's notes

This Soviet optical center finder of the TsO-2 (ЦО-2) type is a high-precision instrument made in the USSR for coordinate boring and milling machines. It was designed to position a workpiece with high accuracy relative to the spindle. The heavy industrial construction, grey enamel finish and blackened steel parts make it a solid example of Soviet machine-shop optics.

Condition

Cosmetically, the center finder shows signs of time, including minor paint chips and surface wear consistent with age and workshop use. The optical path is clear and the crosshair is visible, and the coated lenses appear to be in good vintage condition. The mechanical parts move, but the instrument has not been tested on a machine. As with all vintage precision instruments, it is sold as-is for use, restoration or collection. Please see the photos.

About This Piece

Optical center finders were essential in tool-and-die and precision machining shops, where coordinate boring machines required exact alignment. This Soviet optical center finder appeals to machinists who work with vintage equipment, to collectors of Soviet optics, and to anyone who appreciates heavy, well-made industrial tools as display pieces.
