About this piece

Vintage Soviet Triplet 2.8/78 projection lens, 78mm f/2.8, 3-element design for DIY adapting to mirrorless or DSLR. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This Soviet projection lens is a Triplet (Триплет) 2.8/78, a 78 mm lens with a fixed maximum aperture of f/2.8. It was designed for slide projectors rather than cameras, but photographers adapt lenses like this to modern mirrorless and DSLR bodies for their swirly bokeh and classic vintage rendering. It is a fun project lens for anyone who experiments with old glass.

About This Piece

Lenses of this type were originally made for slide projectors such as the Letyi or Ekran series. Because it is a projection lens, it has no focusing helicoid and no aperture blades, so using it on a camera needs a specialized adapter or a DIY focusing helicoid, usually based on M42 or M65 systems. Creative photographers who like the soft, swirling background blur of old Soviet glass often look for lenses like this one.

  2. Power up slowly and check before regular use; vintage parts may need service.
  3. Keep dry and away from dust; store with lens and battery covers on.
  4. Remove batteries before long-term storage.
