About This Piece
Soviet economic life was organized into Five Year Plans, and the 11th plan covered the first half of the 1980s. Workers and brigades who exceeded their targets were honored with titles and badges, and the word udarnik, or shock worker, became a symbol of that effort. Pieces like this show how the plans were celebrated in everyday items and are sought after by collectors of Soviet labor memorabilia. Keep in mind that the badge is a small, light object, so a display card or a frame works well to show it off.
