About This Piece
The State Emblem of the USSR was one of the most widely reproduced symbols of the Soviet Union. Its design centers on the hammer and sickle over a globe, framed by sheaves of wheat wrapped in ribbons bearing the motto Workers of the world, unite! in the languages of the Soviet republics, with a red star at the top. The emblem appeared on banknotes, passports, official buildings and in offices, schools and public halls across the country.
Wall reliefs like this one were used as decorative elements in Soviet interiors, and today they are sought by collectors of communist memorabilia and Cold War history. A dated piece from 1985, the year Mikhail Gorbachev came to power, makes an interesting conversation item on a wall or shelf, whether in a collection of Soviet propaganda, a themed interior or a display of political artifacts from the USSR. Please refer to the photos for the exact appearance of this particular relief.
