About This Piece
Political matryoshkas became a popular Russian souvenir genre, showing leaders of the Soviet era in the familiar wooden doll shape. Gorbachev is a particularly recognized subject, and a small single doll like this one is easy to place on a shelf next to other Soviet souvenirs or Cold War keepsakes. The description mentions both hand-painted and decal-printed finishes, so the photographs are the best way to see how the portrait was applied. The seller also points to a tape-measure picture, which shows the true size next to a familiar object and helps you decide where it would fit on your shelf.
