From the seller's notes

This WW2 German canteen is an original M31 field canteen (Feldflasche) of the Wehrmacht, made of aluminum and stamped "ESB 42" on the neck. It is a relic, or battlefield find, condition piece that shows clear evidence of its history, with dents, surface wear and a puncture in the body. It is offered as the aluminum flask only.

About This Piece

The M31 canteen was the standard German field canteen of the Second World War, issued with a felt cover, a cup and a strap. Maker codes on the neck, such as ESB for Eduard Sommerfeld in Berlin, together with the year stamp, help collectors identify the manufacturer and date of each example. Unrestored battlefield finds like this one are valued for their honesty rather than their appearance: the damage is part of the story. It is a strong character piece for a display about the realities of the front line or for a collector of authentic WW2 militaria and relics.
