About This Piece

Ded Moroz is the gift-bringer of the Soviet and post-Soviet New Year, which replaced Christmas as the main winter holiday in the USSR. Cotton wool figures were a common homemade and factory craft for tree and table decor, and the fragile material means older examples with their original labels are not often found at this size. This figure is a good fit for collectors of Soviet New Year decorations and mid-century holiday folk art.
