From the seller's notes

This Mayak M-240C-1 is a Soviet stereo cassette deck that has been restored and serviced, as the seller describes, and is fully functional. It has a built-in stereo power amplifier, backlit analog level meters and a mechanical three-digit tape counter with memory. The Mayak brand is remembered for solid construction, which makes this a ready-to-use Soviet audio piece.

Used, in good vintage condition with minor signs of wear for its age and no major scratches, dents or cracks. The seller states that the deck had a complete electronic and mechanical restoration. Knobs and sliders are original and turn smoothly, the rear panel is cleaned and the serial number plate is present. The unit is built for 220V/50 Hz, so buyers on 110V/60 Hz power need a step-up voltage converter.

About This Piece

Soviet cassette decks of this class paired a mechanical tape counter and analog meters with a built-in power amplifier, so they could drive speakers directly. For collectors of vintage audio and for listeners who prefer analog sound, a serviced unit like this is far more useful than one that can only be displayed.

  1. Most Soviet electronics run on 220V — use a step-down converter in the US.
  2. Power up slowly and check before regular use; vintage parts may need service.
  3. Keep dry and away from dust; store with lens and battery covers on.
  4. Remove batteries before long-term storage.
