About This Piece

Cotton wool figures were a staple of Soviet New Year decoration: Ded Moroz, with his granddaughter Snegurochka, replaced Santa Claus in the Soviet calendar, and families set such figures under the tree. The original paper label with date and price makes this one easy to date and shows how it was sold. Collectors of Soviet Christmas ornaments and Ukrainian folk toys look for pieces like this with a surviving label.
