From the seller's notes

This Soviet jewelry box is a charming trinket box souvenir from the Black Sea resort of Sochi, with a sepia photographic insert on the lid showing the grand archway pavilion at Matsesta surrounded by palm trees. Made in the USSR in the 1960s–1970s from light cream molded plastic, it has an elegant wavy, contoured shape. It is a classic keepsake brought back from holidays on the Soviet Black Sea coast.

About This Piece

Matsesta, part of greater Sochi, is known for its mineral springs and was one of the best-known spa destinations of the Soviet era. Souvenir boxes with photo lids were sold to holidaymakers as mementos of their stay. Today they appeal to collectors of Soviet travel souvenirs, vintage vanity items and Soviet home decor, and this one still works well for rings, earrings or other small keepsakes.
