This Soviet lacquer box, titled "Ship Grove" (Gryaznov), is a painted papier-mache box from the 1950s. The lid carries a hand-painted miniature. It was made in the USSR and is the kind of object that interests collectors of Russian lacquer art.

About This Piece
Painted papier-mache boxes became a symbol of Russian folk art, and the Soviet period produced many fine examples. The ship grove theme is an unusual choice among lacquer miniatures. Even with its lid chip, a titled and dated box like this is a worthwhile addition to a lacquer collection. The rectangular format of about 15 by 10 cm is a comfortable size for storing small objects on a desk or dresser. The chip on the lid is shown in the pictures so that you know exactly what to expect. How to return an item

- I will confirm the return and reply with instructions. Items sent back without contacting me first cannot be accepted.
- The item must be returned in the same condition you received it, with all parts, accessories and original packaging that came with it.
- Return shipping is paid by the buyer. Please use a tracked shipping service and pack the item carefully — vintage pieces are fragile, and I can't refund items damaged on the way back.
