From the seller's notes

This Soviet luxmeter is a Yu16 (Ю16) illumination meter manufactured in 1962 in Ukraine during the USSR era, complete with its handheld F102 (Ф102) selenium photocell probe and original carrying case. It is a professional device for measuring light levels, with a clear analog scale marked in lux. Its industrial serial number is #2481.

Condition

Used, in very good vintage condition for its age. The meter body and the photocell show minor signs of wear. The case is sturdy and functional, with its original leather handle and purple velvet-style lining. Functionally, the needle moves when exposed to light, indicating that the selenium cell is still reactive. As a precision instrument of this age, it is sold as-is for collection, display or restoration; calibration is not guaranteed.

What's Included

  • Yu16 analog display unit
  • F102 selenium photocell probe
  • Original protective carrying case

About This Piece

Selenium photocells generate their own current when light falls on them, so instruments like the Yu16 needed no batteries to measure illumination. The velvet-lined case is typical of high-end Soviet precision tools of the period. This early 1960s set is a fine addition to a collection of Soviet cameras, radios or vintage scientific equipment.
