About this piece

Vintage Soviet perpetual desk calendar with an embossed Odessa medallion of the Potemkin Stairs, flip metal case, 1960s-70s. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This Soviet perpetual desk calendar is a metal flip calendar with a folding lid, made in the USSR around 1960-1970. The lid carries an embossed metal medallion showing the famous Potemkin Stairs and the monument to the Duke of Richelieu in Odessa, with the inscription «ODESSA» at the bottom. The date changes by flipping the case, the month by hand scrolling, and the day of the week in Cyrillic by a side handle.

About This Piece

Perpetual calendars were common desk accessories in Soviet offices and homes, and city souvenirs from places like Odessa often showed the local landmarks. The Potemkin Stairs, made famous by the 1925 film Battleship Potemkin, are the best-known symbol of the city, and the Richelieu monument stands at the top. It is a compact piece for collectors of Soviet desk items, Odessa and Ukrainian souvenirs, or anyone who likes a retro mechanical calendar.
