About this piece

Soviet porcelain figurine of a Red Army cavalryman in a budenovka on a white horse, Polonne factory, 1950s, 14 cm. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This Soviet porcelain figurine shows a warrior, described as a bogatyr or Red Army cavalryman, in a traditional budenovka hat with a red star, riding a white horse. It was made at the Polonne Porcelain Factory in Ukraine in the 1950s. Bright orange accents, hand-painted details and subtle gilding on the sword and the horse's mane decorate the piece.

The gilding shows slight age-related fading. Please review all of the photos, which are the best guide to the paint and the stamp.

About This Piece

Polonne was one of the main porcelain and faience makers in Soviet Ukraine, and its figurines with military and folk subjects are collected today. The budenovka hat was a hallmark of Red Army cavalry in the early Soviet period, which makes this rider a recognizable image from the era. The hand-written inscription on the horse is a personal touch that sets this particular piece apart from other examples.
