About This Piece
Veselka was the main children's publisher of Soviet Ukraine, and its science books were known for generous illustration. Published in 1986, this volume captures the pride the USSR took in its space program in the late Soviet years, when long-duration flights aboard orbital stations were the headline achievement. Detailed technical drawings sit next to portraits of famous cosmonauts, making it both an educational book and a period piece of Space Race imagery.
Because it is written entirely in Ukrainian rather than Russian, this Soviet space book is also of interest to collectors of regional and language editions, as well as to anyone who collects vintage scientific illustration or Soviet space program collectibles.
