This Soviet tanker helmet is the winter model TShL-4, a padded soft helmet with a warm sheepskin or fur lining that was standard headgear for armored vehicle crews in the USSR. The stamp indicates production in November 1989, shortly before the end of the Soviet Union.

About This Piece
Tank crew helmets of this type protect the head from knocks inside the vehicle while keeping it warm in cold weather, and the built-in pockets hold the headset. A dated helmet from the late 1980s is an original Cold War item that suits military collections, display, reenactment or cosplay.
