About this piece
Soviet wooden mushroom figurine, Forest Plastic style, carved and varnished on a natural wood base, 1970s-80s. Ships worldwide from Ukraine with tracking.
From the seller's notes
This Soviet wooden figurine is a handmade piece of "Forest Plastic" (Lesnaya Plastika), a cluster of carved and varnished wooden mushrooms growing from a natural wood base. It dates to the 1970s-1980s Soviet Union and combines folk art with a Mid-Century Modern look. Because the base follows the natural shape of the wood, each figurine is one of a kind.

About This Piece
Forest Plastic is the Russian name for sculptures built from roots, branches and other naturally shaped wood, with only light carving added to bring out a form the material already suggested. In the USSR such pieces were valued for their closeness to nature and their craftsmanship. Today they appeal to collectors of Soviet decor and to anyone who likes organic, handmade accents for a shelf or desk. Look at the photos to see how the roots and branches of the base are used, since that part is different on every piece.
