About This Piece
The fiftieth anniversary of the USSR in 1972 was one of the major celebrations of the Soviet calendar, and souvenir badges were made for it in large numbers. Today these pins are a simple and affordable way to collect Cold War era memorabilia. Placed next to the 60 Years issue of 1982, a 1972 badge shows how the same anniversary theme was handled ten years apart. The era label is part of what collectors look for in this piece, since Cold War memorabilia from the 1970s is often searched by decade. The compact size means it can be shipped, stored and displayed without taking much space.
