About This Piece
In the Soviet Union, the decorated tree was the centerpiece of New Year celebrations rather than Christmas, and families brought it out each winter alongside Ded Moroz (Grandfather Frost) and glass ornaments. Silver trees in the mid-century modern spirit reflected the optimism and Space Age aesthetics of the period, and they remain a nostalgic symbol of the holidays for many people who grew up in the USSR. Today, an original Soviet silver tree is a striking choice for a retro holiday display, a vintage Soviet Christmas tree collection, or a mid-century modern interior. Pair it with vintage glass ornaments or a classic tree topper for an authentic period look, or display it on its own as a minimalist accent that stands out from modern green trees.
