About This Piece
In the Soviet Union the decorated fir tree became the center of the New Year holiday, and glass ornaments were an important part of it, made in many shapes and painted by hand. Drop baubles like this one are among the traditional forms, and the silver and pink combination gives it a soft, nostalgic look. Collectors of vintage glass Christmas ornaments value these pieces for their painted detail and for what they show about how celebrations looked in Soviet homes. Even a single hand-painted bauble can be the start of a themed collection of Soviet glass decorations, and its silver and pink shades pair well with other vintage glass for a tree display.
