About this piece

Second antique triangular jewelry box in beveled etched glass and brass with burgundy velvet, working hinge, 13 cm sides. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This antique triangular jewelry box is the second example of a Victorian-style glass and brass casket, with thick beveled glass panels in an ornate brass frame and decorative serrated edging. The top and side glass are hand-etched with floral and leaf motifs, and it rests on three cast brass feet. It carries a time-worn brass patina, a working hinge and a burgundy velvet cushion.

Condition

Used antique condition. The brass has a charming time-worn patina and a solid structure, and the hinge works perfectly. The glass panels are intact, with a few minor "flea bites" (tiny nibbles) on the beveled edges that are common at this age. The velvet cushion shows some age-related wear but remains plush and well attached. Please review the photos, as they are part of the condition description.

About This Piece

Triangular caskets were an alternative to the standard rectangular jewelry box, and the combination of beveled glass, etched flowers and a brass frame is typical of the decorative taste of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. This is the second of two similar boxes in our collection, so you can pick the one whose patina you like best. Place it on a dresser for rings and pins, or use it as a small display case for keepsakes.
