About this piece

Soviet camera Smena-2 by GOMZ, a 35mm film camera with LOMO T-22 lens. Shutter fires, untested with film, sold as-is. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This Soviet camera is a Smena-2 (Смена-2) made by GOMZ in the USSR, a compact 35mm film camera fitted with a T-22 lens marked LOMO. The shutter fires, but the camera has not been tested with film, so it is sold as-is as a collectible for display, parts or restoration.

Condition

Mechanical: untested. The shutter fires when pressed, but the camera has not been tested with film; the precision of the shutter speeds and the light-tightness of the body have not been verified. Cosmetic: good vintage condition with no visible cracks or major damage to the body. Please study the high-resolution photos carefully to assess the exterior. Optics: the T-22 lens appears clear but may have internal dust or cleaning marks typical for a camera of this age. Sold as-is; no claims are made about mechanical performance.

About This Piece

The Smena name, meaning “new generation,” belongs to a long line of simple, affordable 35mm cameras made in Leningrad, and for many Soviet photographers a Smena was the very first camera they owned. GOMZ, the Leningrad optical-mechanical works, was later reorganized as LOMO, which is why both names appear in connection with this camera. Today early Smena models are appreciated for their straightforward design and their place in the history of Soviet photography.

This Soviet camera is a good fit for collectors of Soviet vintage cameras, a shelf display of USSR optics, or a restoration project for someone who wants to bring an early Smena back to shooting film.
