The base carries a hand-engraved dedication in Russian from the Tula Regional Committee of the Komsomol. It is a personalized piece, so collectors of Soviet awards and desk accessories will find it hard to match.

About This Piece

The inscription shows that this item was presented as an official prize by the Komsomol, the Soviet youth organization, at a technical competition for young designers of home-built cars. Tula is known as the City of Masters, with a long tradition of metalwork and arms making, which explains the blacksmith and shell-casing motifs. Because the engraving is personal to one event, this piece interests both Soviet memorabilia collectors and people drawn to Soviet technical history.
