From the seller's notes

This Soviet marine painting, "Ship at Night," is an original work by S.N. Matveyev (Matveev), created in Leningrad in 1988 during the late Soviet era. It depicts a majestic three-masted sailing ship under full sail, ploughing through deep blue waters beneath a moonlit or twilight sky. The rigging and hull are rendered in careful detail, capturing the classic look of 18th–19th-century sailing ships.

About This Piece

The palette is that of a classic "night sea" scene, built on rich indigo and ultramarine shades. Leningrad, with its naval academies and long maritime history, was home to many painters of the sea, and tall ships were a favorite subject. This framed work suits collectors of Soviet-era art, naval history enthusiasts, and anyone looking for a striking piece of nautical decor.
