About this piece

Vintage Vermona harmonica with tremolo, made in the GDR, with chrome covers and blue plastic comb. Small chip on the comb. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

This vintage Vermona harmonica is a tremolo model made in the German Democratic Republic (GDR, East Germany). It has chrome covers with the red and black Vermona logo and geometric cutouts, and a bright blue plastic double-sided comb that gives the classic tremolo effect.

Item Details

  • Brand: Vermona
  • Type: Tremolo harmonica, double-sided
  • Covers: Chrome, with red and black Vermona logo and geometric cutouts
  • Comb: Bright blue plastic
  • Size: Approximately pocket size (see the hand in the photos for comparison)

Condition

Used, vintage. The metal covers show light oxidation or patina and minor surface scratches. There is a small chip or crack in one corner of the blue plastic comb, shown in photos 4, 9 and 12, and it does not appear to affect the overall stability. The reeds are present. As with any vintage harmonica, light cleaning or tuning may be needed for serious playing.

About This Piece

Vermona was an East German brand, and harmonicas like this were made in the GDR for the domestic market and for export. The blue comb and chrome covers give it a mid-century look that suits folk music players and collectors of GDR memorabilia or vintage instruments. With a tremolo design, each note is played with two slightly detuned reeds, which gives it a warm, wavering voice that suits folk tunes.
