About this piece

Zarya Soviet 35mm film camera from the FED factory in Kharkov with Industar-26M 2.8/52 lens, shutter fires, good condition. Ships worldwide from Ukraine.

From the seller's notes

The Zarya, whose name means dawn in Russian, is a classic Soviet 35mm film camera made by the FED factory in Kharkov. It was designed as a budget-friendly, simplified version of the FED-2, and it comes with an Industar-26M 2.8/52 lens. This example dates from the late 1950s to early 1960s.

Condition

Good vintage condition with minor signs of age and use; see photos. The leatherette is intact. The lens appears relatively clear, with no major scratches or fungus visible. The shutter fires, the film transport works, and the back cover removes easily for loading. As with any vintage camera, a professional CLA (clean, lubricate, adjust) is recommended before regular use.

About This Piece

Unlike the FED-2, the Zarya has no rangefinder and no self-timer, and that clean, minimalist layout is part of its appeal to collectors. It has a solid metal construction and a large, bright viewfinder. It is a straightforward way to own a camera from the FED works. The take-up spool is inside, as shown in the interior photos. The camera shows its age honestly, which many collectors prefer to over-polished examples.

Care & handling

  1. Most Soviet electronics run on 220V — use a step-down converter in the US.
  2. Power up slowly and check before regular use; vintage parts may need service.
  3. Keep dry and away from dust; store with lens and battery covers on.
  4. Remove batteries before long-term storage.
